Project Description:

Chronic wounds are complex, long-lasting wounds that require specialized care and attention. They have a significant healthcare impact in quality of life and resources, with a market size of 12.3 billion dollars.

Our antibacterial bandage is intended to help patients with chronic wounds and infections heal in a hospital or home setting.

The nanoparticle prototype showed good antibacterial effect against e.coli, but required a larger concentration range to identify MIC. The dressing tests showed polyurethane had the highest water retention and tear strength. The alginate hydrogel showed partial pH responsiveness, but did not positively correlate release with pH.
