Project Description:

The Patient Monitoring Robot (PMR) is a modern answer to the question of how best to ensure the safety and health of elderly, sick, and disabled loved ones. With the ability to autonomously follow the assigned patient and alert caretakers of falls or abnormal movements such as those associated with cardiac events or seizures, the PMR is intended to keep an eye on the wellbeing of its patient in a nonintrusive manner. The PMR doesn’t require the patient to wear any monitoring devices which may irritate or damage sensitive skin, or simply be forgotten and left on the bedside table. Possibilities for future development include medication reminders with an onboard dispenser, identifying and leading disoriented or confused patients to safe areas, and allowing caretakers to manually control the robot in certain scenarios to assess a possible medical event or even administer limited first aid such as epinephrine in advance of first responders.
