Project Description: 

Hydrogen is rapidly increasing in demand as an alternative to traditional fuel for transportation. Currently, most research done on hydrogen fuel is based on the production of hydrogen through methane steam reforming which is produced from hydrocarbons and emits carbon dioxides that cause notable damage to the environment. This project is based instead on nuclear hydrogen, or "pink hydrogen," that has the potential to replace the current process of methane steam reforming in effort of climate change considerations. Hydrogen production through electrolysis, a low-carbon energy generation method, can produce hydrogen fuel via high temperature (>500 degrees Celsius) steam electrolysis (HTSE). Here we present plans for a 170 metric ton per day high-temperature steam electrolysis system.
