Project Description:

Softstar Shoes is a custom leather shoe manufacturer located in Philomath, Oregon. Timeliness of their high-end products is essential to maintaining their long-standing commitment to quality. In addition, they are dedicated to environmental mindfulness, working sustainably to minimize their footprint. As a small company of less than 100 employees, Softstar currently is experiencing low throughput and high WIP. Additional time a shoe is sitting on the production line not being worked drives up costs and total time from the customer ordering to receiving their shoes. The scope of this project, therefore, is to analyze the current system, identify areas of high WIP, and implement alternative solutions in their production line.

The project goal will be to reduce WIP in the shoe manufacturing process. Softstar has identified some potential areas of focus, namely theĀ 24-hour dry after shoes are dipped in hot water. It will be the aim of this project to evaluate the current state system and identify areas for improvement.
