Project Description:

Team 614 was tasked with creating a system of sensors that can monitor the compliance of safety harness use to OSHA standards. The team's sponsor was the Spies Corporation, a local roofing company. This project was led by John Parmigiani, Professor at Oregon State University as well as the head of the Prototype Development Lab. This team was put together because currently there aren't any solutions to monitoring roofers' compliance in the industry.

Through the use of a combination of off-the-shelf sensors housed on the safety harness. Compliance will be able to be transmitted to the supervisor so that there is not a need to personally watch over every roofer.  The monitoring system is designed to accurately monitor an individual’s compliance without sacrificing the effectiveness of the harness as a whole. In order to keep the effectiveness of the harness, the monitoring system is designed to break away in the scenario of a roofer falling off the roof.
