Project Description:

The Century Farms App is a web application that allows farmers, researchers, and any other user to view information about Century Farms in Oregon's Willamette Valley. A Century Farm is a status that is formally granted to farms that have been owned by the same family for at least 100 years. The application features a map that shows the locations for a small portion of the Century Farms. The team worked with a master's student, Mariah Goldbach, who is doing her thesis on Century Farms and has interviewed eleven of them. Such farms are denoted with a yellow color on the map and in the sidebar listings. The sidebar next to the map allows users to search farms by name and to filter by crops and livestock. Users can click on a farm's marker on the map to access information on the year it was created, the crops and animals it used to grow, the current crops and animals, and who the current owners are. The app also provides the ability to view a time series of major climate variables like maximum and minimum annual temperature and annual precipitation for past and future climate. This allows users to see how projected changes in climate compare to past experiences of the farms.
