Project Description:

A cocktail umbrella that when placed into a drink will indicate if the drink contains GHB (a common date rape drug). The umbrella will be the same size as ones currently on the market so that they will not stand out in a bar setting. A sample of the drink will travel up the capillary to the testing site 7 cm from the bottom of the umbrella. The testing site will have a BODIPY complex which can test for small concentrations of GHB in a drink and which has been tested in a range of pH, sugar contents and colors. If the drink has GHB in it, the testing site will turn pink so that the user can easily identify the change.
