Project Description:

According to the 2020 AIChE Undergraduate Design Competition prompt, an ammonia production plant with a capacity of 50 metric tons per day of anhydrous ammonia was designed.  Additional design considerations included plant modularity and low environmental footprint.

Instead of using traditional manufacturing methods for ammonia synthesis, the feasibility of using ammonia-producing cyanobacteria in photobioreactors was explored.  The plant was designed for the Minnesota River Basin.
